April 23, 2024—Ten CFISD high school theatre programs were recently recognized as Honor Troupes by Texas Thespians. Texas Thespians is an affiliate chapter of the Educational Theater Association and its student honor organization, the International Thespian Society.
Honor troupes were selected though the troupe’s involvement in The Leadership Academy, a yearlong online training program. The mission of the Leadership Academy includes developing leadership skills, improving troupe dynamics, promoting collaboration, creating best practices and strengthening participating theatre programs. Beyond just building strong theatre programs, troupes are challenged to strive for arts advocacy and community outreach. Honor Troupes are awarded a plaque and a banner and are featured in Texas Thespians Monthly magazine.
“CFISD has a long history of strong theatre programs. This makes the fourth straight year Cypress Ridge and Cypress Wood high schools have been named Honor Troupes. I am pleased to see the district’s participation in the program expand. Our theatre programs help develop tomorrow’s project managers, leaders, and change-makers of the future,” said Kelley Hughes, coordinator of secondary fine arts.
The following high school programs were recognized as Gold Honor Troupes:
- Bridgeland
- Cy-Fair
- Cypress Creek
- Cypress Falls
- Cypress Park
- Cypress Ranch
- Cypress Ridge
- Cypress Woods
Additionally, Cypress Ranch High School was recognized as a Silver Honor Troupe and Jersey Village High School was recognized as a Bronze Honor Troupe.
“We are excited to receive this honor on behalf of our entire Cypress Creek campus and community,” said Tim Estelle, Cypress Creek theatre director. “We could not have achieved this recognition without the support of our parents, campus staff and administration, and most importantly, the dedicated students who make up Troupe 931! Ahh CC!”
