Nov. 23, 2021—The CFISD psychological services and community programs departments partnered together to conduct an annual “Turkey Trot Food Donation Race” in collaboration with the CFISD youth service specialists during the first two weeks of November to provide relief and needed food items to the district’s food pantry.

The project is organized by psychological services’ diversity committee as the department’s annual community outreach project. Now in its fourth year, department members are divided into teams to create a friendly competition among staff.

This year, psychological services staff members invited their neighbors from community programs—both departments are located at the Cy-Fair Annex—to join in on the competition. Community programs also received donations from the Early Learning Center locations.

Staff brought in 1,452 items and $625 in donations. The proceeds were used to purchase additional 569 items, bringing the total to 2,021 items for the food pantry.

“Our department seeks opportunities to reach out and support the CFISD community,” said Dr. Traci Schluter, director of psychological services. “We are grateful this year to expand our annual Turkey Trot Food Donation Race by partnering with our friends in community programs. The opportunity for our departments to collaborate and fill the district’s pantry so our youth service specialists colleagues can provide meals to families in the CFISD community is a blessing to all.”
