Livestock Show and Sale generates more than $450,000 for projects
Cypress Ranch High School junior Laynee Buchanan had the Grand Champion Swine at the CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $15,000 to Conda Maze JRP LLC.
Feb. 11, 2022—The 28th Annual CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, held Feb. 1-5 at the CFISD Exhibit Center, saw a near record-breaking year due to the incredible generosity from the CFISD community through the live auction, with no exhibits in the last third of the sale selling for less than $1,000.
Cypress Ranch High School junior Laynee Buchanan also had the Grand Champion Steer at the CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $20,000 to Jarrar & Company Inc., Parkway Chevrolet and Lone Star Chevrolet/Houston Area Chevrolet Dealers.
The premium sale (live auction) raised $430,300, an increase of $148,350 from the 2021 sale. The agriculture mechanics and horticulture silent auction raised $22,733, and $4,197 was awarded through royalty scholarships and heifer prizes, bringing the unofficial total of the 2022 show and sale to $457,271. Final amounts from the freezer sale (animals not placing high enough for the live auction), monetary donations to students and t-shirt sales are not yet available. In addition, one new record was set for Reserve Champion Horticulture:
- Balfour/All American Letter Jackets paid $3,750 for the Reserve Champion Horticulture project exhibited by Addison Breland from Cypress Woods High School.
Cypress Woods High School junior Emily Taylor had the Grand Champion Horticulture project at the CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $2,500 to Balfour/All American Letter Jackets.
One record sale was also tied:
- Towne Lake Caldwell Companies paid $7,500 for the Reserve Champion Rabbit exhibited by Lauren Duncan from Bridgeland High School.
Cypress Park High School Agriculture Mechanics team, from left, junior Anthony Gonzalez, sophomore Fatima Carranza, freshman Bryce Hubbard and senior Arianna Rincon, pose for a picture after being named Grand Champion for their 12-foot bumper pull utility trailer.
Other firsts at the 2022 show included Cypress Ranch High School junior Laynee Buchanan becoming the first student ever to win both Grand Champion Swine and Grand Champion Steer.
Cypress Ranch High School junior Madison Treichel had the Grand Champion Goat for the second consecutive year at the CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $9,000 to Stuckey’s LLC. Treichel also had the Grand Champion Broilers, which sold for $7,000 to Cypress Wellhead Service. She was also named Reserve Champion in goat showmanship.
“It was evident that our families and community were ready to come out and support our hard-working students,” said Denise Kubecka, director of career and technical education. “Hundreds were present to keep up with the judging in-person in our newly renovated CFISD Exhibit Center, or via our livestream throughout the entirety of the show, including the sale on Saturday.”
Cypress Falls High School junior Abigail Cline had the Grand Champion Lamb at the CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $11,000 to Jarrar & Company Inc. and Lone Star Chevrolet/Houston Area Chevrolet Dealers.
The following Livestock Royalty representatives, chosen at the royalty contest on Dec. 4, 2021, were onsite to assist with award presentations:
- Show King – Logan Jaure from Jersey Village FFA;
- Show Queen – Emily Fayard from Cypress Woods FFA;
- Show Teen – Brandon Blackshear from Cypress Ranch FFA;
