CFISD swimmers and divers earn 2022 TISCA All-State Team honors

Cypress Creek High School senior Hayden Miller earned TISCA First Team All-State honors in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. Miller earned a state title in both events at the UIL Swimming and Diving Class 6A State meet, held Feb. 18-19 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin. 

April 19, 2022—Thirty-two CFISD swimmers and divers were named to the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA) All-State Team, a recognized organization of the University Interscholastic League (UIL).  

Bridgeland High School junior Emma Kinsey earned TISCA First Team All-State honors.
Bridgeland High School junior Emma Kinsey earned TISCA First Team All-State honors in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly. Kinsey earned a state title in the 100-yard breaststroke and placed third overall in the 100-yard butterfly at the UIL Swimming and Diving Class 6A State Meet. Kinsey also earned TISCA Second Team All-State honors as part of the Bridgeland girls 200-yard medley relay and earned TISCA Honorable Mention All-State honors as part of the Bridgeland girls 400-yard freestyle relay. 

To earn TISCA All-State honors, swimmers and divers must have one of the top 24 times in each event across the state from either the TISCA Championship Meet, varsity district championships, regional championships or the state championship meet.

Cy-Fair High School sophomore Ella Smoker earned TISCA First Team All-State honors.
Cy-Fair High School sophomore Ella Smoker earned TISCA First Team All-State honors in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley. Smoker finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke and placed sixth overall in the 200-yard individual medley at the UIL Swimming and Diving Class 6A State Meet. Smoker also earned TISCA Honorable Mention All-State honors as part of the Cy-Fair girls 400-yard freestyle relay. 

The following CFISD athletes earned TISCA First Team All-State honors:

  • Cypress Creek High School senior Hayden Miller – 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle;
  • Bridgeland High School junior Emma Kinsey – 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly;
  • Cy-Fair High School sophomore Ella Smoker – 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley;
  • Cypress Woods High School junior Benjamin Scholl – 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle;
  • Cy-Fair senior Matthew Bittner – 100-yard backstroke; and
  • Cy-Fair girls 200-yard medley relay – Maddie Nguyen, Ella Smoker, Amy Nguyen and Sofia Luper.

Cypress Woods High School junior Benjamin Scholl earned TISCA First Team All-State honors in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Scholl won a state title in the 50-yard freestyle and placed second overall in the 100-yard freestyle at the UIL Swimming and Diving Class 6A State Meet. Scholl also earned TISCA Honorable Mention All-State honors as part of the Cypress Woods boys 400-yard freestyle relay. 

The following CFISD athletes earned TISCA Second Team All-State honors:

  • Cy-Fair freshman Sofia Luper – 200-yard individual medley;
  • Cy-Fair senior Matthew Bittner – 200-yard freestyle;
  • Cypress Woods junior Daniel Choi – 500-yard freestyle;
  • Cypress Woods sophomore Benjamin Romig – 1-meter diving;
  • Cypress Woods junior Chloe McKnight – 1-meter diving;
  • Cy-Fair girls 200-yard freestyle relay – Maddie Nguyen, Bryn Walker, Mary Ruland and Sofia Luper;
  • Bridgeland girls 200-yard medley relay – Sophia Avery, Erin Ware, Emma Kinsey and Aidyn Lawton; and
  • Bridgeland boys 200-yard medley relay – Henry Hugele, Thomas Ryder, Brantson Bui and Levi Thome.

Cy-Fair High School senior Matthew Bittner earned TISCA First Team All-State honors in the 100-yard backstroke.
Cy-Fair High School senior Matthew Bittner earned TISCA First Team All-State honors in the 100-yard backstroke. Bittner placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke at the UIL Swimming and Diving Class 6A Meet. Bittner also earned TISCA Second Team All-State honors in the 200-yard freestyle. 

The following CFISD athletes earned Honorable Mention All-State honors:

  • Cy-Fair freshman Sofia Luper – 100-yard freestyle;
  • Cypress Woods senior Ashley Beardmore – 100-yard backstroke;
  • Cypress Woods junior Daniel Choi – 200-yard freestyle;
  • Cypress Lakes High School sophomore Joel Nace – 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly;
  • Cypress Lakes senior Jackson Nace – 500-yard freestyle;
  • Bridgeland sophomore Henry Hugele – 100-yard backstroke;
  • Cypress Creek junior Wesley Miles – 100-yard butterfly;
  • Cypress Woods girls 200-yard medley relay – Ashley Beardmore, Simone Kabbara, Genevieve Casten and Lilly Redwine;
  • Bridgeland girls 200-yard freestyle relay – Kennedy Hudson, Aidyn Lawton, Emma Kinsey and Sophia Avery;
  • Cypress Woods girls 400-yard freestyle relay – Abigail Briggs, Emily Vossler, Ashley Beardmore and Genevieve Casten;
  • Cy-Fair girls 400-yard freestyle relay – Bryn Walker, Mary Rulund, Amy Nguyen and Ella Smoker; and
  • Cypress Woods boys 400-yard freestyle relay – Daniel Choi, Brock Borak, Zach Hays and Benjamin Scholl.

“We are extremely proud of all the swimmers and divers that were named to the 2021-2022 All-State Swimming and Diving list,” said Jonathan Mayer, CFISD director of aquatics. “The athletes and coaches put in countless hours throughout the season, working to shave off fractions of seconds to achieve their top times by the end of the year.
