Middle schools clinch 2022 district track and field championships

Goodson Middle School won the eighth grade boys’ track and field team title with 137 points at the District Meet.
Goodson Middle School won the eighth grade boys’ track and field team title with 137 points at the District Meet, held April 26-28 at Cypress Lakes and Cypress Woods high schools.

May 24, 2022—The Goodson Middle School seventh and eighth grade boys, Smith Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls, and Spillane Middle School eighth grade girls all clinched their respective track and field district championships at the District Meet, held April 26-28 at Cypress Lakes and Cypress Woods high schools.

Goodson won the seventh grade boys’ competition with 100.6 points to finish ahead of runner-up Hamilton Middle School (60.5) and third-place Smith Middle School (54.4).

Smith won the seventh grade girls’ competition with 121 points, followed by second-place Anthony Middle School (92) and third-place Hamilton (66).

Spillane Middle School tied for the eighth grade girls’ track and field team title.
Spillane Middle School tied for the eighth grade girls’ track and field team title. The Spartans tied with Smith Middle School, as both earned 100.3 points.

Goodson won the eighth grade boys’ competition with 137 points, ahead of runner-up Salyards Middle School (107) and third-place Spillane (89).

Smith and Spillane tied for the eighth grade girls’ title with 100.3 points each. They finished ahead of third-place Aragon Middle School (100).

Nine district track and field records were broken over the three days of competition:

Seventh Grade Girls

  • 4x100-meter relay – Smith Middle School (Jayda Runnels, Paige Bell, Dani Garza and Markayla Blackstock), 51.50;
  • 800-meter run – Sarah Victor, Arnold Middle School, 2:21.368; and
  • 4x200-meter relay – Smith Middle School (Paige Bell, Carden Allison, Naomi Osei-Bempong and Markayla Blackstock), 1:47.31.

Eighth Grade Girls

  • 4x100-meter relay – Aragon Middle School (Katelyn Wattell, Kayla Wattell, Maya Wafford and Laelani Treasure), 49.93.

Seventh Grade Boys

  • 4x100-meter relay – Dean Middle School (Dae’Jon James, Josiah Hamilton, Eugene West and Jeremiah Hamilton), 46.57;
  • 100-meter hurdles – Farrel Boma, Labay Middle School, 14.29;
  • 100-meter dash – Dae’Jon James, Dean Middle School, 11.05; and
  • 200-meter dash – Dae’Jon James, Dean Middle School, 23.64.

Eighth Grade Boys

  • 100-meter dash – Roberto Paredes Todo, Goodson Middle School, 10.74.
