Giving Thanks

Dear CFISD Community,

We have so much to be thankful for! The pace of our lives and schedules can make it difficult to stop to count our blessings. Although life can throw challenges at us, I have found that the positives outweigh the negatives. This Thanksgiving, please take some time to reflect on your highlights.

I am thankful to live in the United States and specifically the Cypress area—where there is great support for one another in the schools and community. As we celebrated Veterans Day throughout the district last week, I was reminded of how grateful I am for our community members who served or are currently serving to make our lives better every day.

A couple weeks ago, I traveled to San Antonio for the UIL State Marching Contest. Three bands—Cypress Woods, Cy-Fair and Bridgeland—qualified, with Cy-Fair and Bridgeland finishing as state finalists. What a treat it was to hear our talented musicians close out the marching season on a high note!

It is always a joy for me to look around the district on any given day and see students doing what they love.

As I approach retirement, I am personally thankful for the support I’ve received from the community, the great teachers and the CFISD employees who have helped make positive things happen the last 12 years—providing outstanding facilities, numerous programs and unparalleled support to all 95 campuses.

Being superintendent in CFISD has been less of a job and more of a calling—it has been my honor and privilege. My wife, Cindy, and I love the community so much that we plan on making this our forever home. I plan on continuing to be a cheerleader for the staff and students of CFISD.

Please enjoy your Thanksgiving break, taking time to rest and share memories with family and loved ones.
