Why did you choose to live in CFISD?

After graduating from Aldine High School in 1995, my family moved to the Cy Fair area. The community is family oriented and my family and I have developed many friendships over the years. When my wife and I decided to start our own family, I felt at home in the Cy Fair community.

Are you currently a CFISD volunteer? If so, what school(s)?

TCA recruits volunteers that share our values to visit schools to assist students and staff.

Considering your skills and talents, what positive contribution would you make as a member of the Board of Trustees?

I look forward to advocating for the children and parents of CFISD's K-12 grades over the next four years. My two sons have been attending this district since kindergarten. Our community is a great place to live and raise a family. I feel I am giving back to the community by serving on the board.

What are the responsibilities of the Board of Trustees?

The Board's responsibilities include providing educational oversight to the CyFair community through civic leadership. The board is responsible for hiring the superintendent and evaluating his or her performance. The board reviews budget and financial items, reviews district policies and procedures, evaluates instruction, and assists in developing instructional plans and goals. It is also the responsibility of the Board to facilitate ongoing further training of its employees.

What role do positive trustee relations on the Board play in affecting student success?

Good relationships with trustees set the tone for the entire district. Students, parents, and staff need to feel secure in their board members and their ability to work together toward a common goal. The most important goal of our school district is student growth and success. Board members have a responsibility to lead in uniting students and the community through positive interactions and teamwork.

What critical challenges face the district, and what are possible solutions to address those issues?

While I understand that CFISD has faced numerous obstacles and setbacks in recent years, the fact that only 59% of current third graders are reading at grade level concerns me. I will seek counsel from current and retired teachers to offer solutions to increase reading comprehension and test scores for our students. I will also advocate for an increase in the basic allotment per student at the state level.
